So I've been using a lowes Kobalt branded ADF (the Hydrographic one) for $130. in my few months of welding this far, compared to harbor freight it seemed like a step up. But, when MIG welding steel thicker than 16gauge, say like 1/8, I had a hard time seeing detail and my welds looked like shot compared to thinner stuff. I decided to go with either a fixed shade or try this SmartTiger. man what a difference! Compared to anything in the big box stores around $100 bucks I think this helmet blows them away. I got this from Amazon for $110. It's got much more comfortable head gear which I didn't care about until I started welding. Clarity and color are much much better than the typical green ADF. The Balder has more of a Teal color and I don't feel like I'm looking through some 6 inch thick piece of green plastic. Compared to Helmets from tractor supply, HD, Lowes etc. this definitely is more bang for the buck if you are starting out like me and don't want to invest a lot. Or you could maybe find a Viking or Speed glass used somewhere. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reply:definitely. I got mine from amazon for $90. They only go on sale from time to time though and are frequently ~$160. if you watch Amazon closely you will see these frequently only go on sale for a day or two, sometime even as short as a few hours.Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:Happy with mine as well. Comfortable, well-designed. I think I got it for $50-60 from Amazon during a big rebate promotion.
Reply:You will see multiple threads that it has been recommended. I think it's a great hood for the money.Tiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.
