Have a quick question about my flowmeter. Should the float ball stay at the desired setting when the bottle is turned on? Or is it only at the desired setting when gas is flowing? Trying to decide if I have a leak in my fittings or machine.  New to flow meters and not completely sure how they should work. Thanks for the help.
Reply:Just when the gas is flowing.Give me fuel, give me fire, give me that which I desire.
Reply:since you brought it up i had a similar question. if you want a particular cfh of gas, lets say 20cfh, should the middle of the ball be on the 20 line ?  wasnt quit sure if the top, middle or bottom of the ball should be on the line

Reply:I have 2 flow meters. Cannot remember the brands. It states right on the flow meter to "Read the ball from the top" and the other one states "Read Ball from middle".www.tjsperformance.comDynasty 300 DXHTP 240HTP Microcut 380Hyperthem 85JD2 Hyd Bender and HF Hyd Ring Roller all in one =(Frankenbender)Bpt. Reply:You want the ball to drop when not welding (after post flow has finished, of course). If the ball does not completely drop other than while welding, there's a gas leak.Rich
Reply:all right answers, various brands ask for various ball locations. also make sure you have the flowmeter vertical position!VictorPraxairAir LiquideMillerLincoln Electric

Reply:The ball is indicated the instantaneous rate of flow. If it never goes to zero, it's showing you how big your leak is.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:You have a leak somewhere. When I shut a bottle off, it takes days for the gauge to leak down to zero.  When the bottle is off, the gauge is showing how many psi of pressure is in the fitting between the gauge and the bottle valve.  Not a very large volume of gas...If the ball is at anything other than zero with the bottle off (or at least not welding).  Then you have a fairly large leak after the flow gauge.  If the ball is at zero, but the needle is dropping quickly (bottle off).  Then you have a leak between the regulator and the bottle. My name's not Jim....
