I am trying to hook a miller suitcase 8 vs to a lincoln 250 idealarc that was made in the 1970s the old tombstone style and I cannot get it to work right. Is the welder not compatable with the suitcase or am I doing sonething wrong. I set the suitcase on cc
Reply:What isn't working right? That Idealarc "should" have enough voltage to run it. The lower end of the spectrum may be dicey, but it should do well in the midrange and higher end. Be very sure the voltage sensing clip is on a clean spot and is getting good contact. You can even clip it onto the ground clamp if need be.QamuIs Heg qaq law' lorvIs yInqaq puS
Reply:I have the clip on the ground I have to set the welder on 150 amps to get the suitcase to run then it is like spray arc there is no control of it.I was wondering if my lincoln was not a cc/cv machine all I can find on the name plate is ocv
Reply:Sounds like you are using solid wire. Hate to tell you this, but that is about as good as you will get with CC and solid wire. It will run a mean and hot spray transfer and a good globular transfer, but no to extremely limited short circuit. You will need CV to run short circuit. CC is pretty good for running flux core and some dual shield wires, though. That is what I primarily ran with CC.QamuIs Heg qaq law' lorvIs yInqaq puS
Reply:I was afraid of that guess I ll save it for a later time. Thanks for the info I appreciate it
Reply:I'm a first year welder and I recently took a knowledge test and one of the questions was "what is in a flux core suitcase or what is needed to weld". That was the first time I heard of a suitcase. Could you tell me what's in it?
