Reply:Thats really good for hardface.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I had time to work on the buckets again, i finished building up the one with the teeth and begain to hardface it. In the first pic it shows how I roughed the shape out with a zipcut before shaping it with the grinder. The second shows the shape ground up.[IMG][/IMG][/IMG][/IMG]I begain to run some beads with the hard surfaceing rod provied by the customer, blueshield Hard58 5/32. The rod isnt ment to penetrate, but to put a hard deposit onto the steel. it was very smokey and the slag popped right off. Reply:[IMG][/IMG] Dirt will catch in the "waffle" pattern and make it so dirt wears on dirt and extend the life of the bucket.[IMG][/IMG]Last edited by Doug247; 01-17-2008 at 01:06 AM.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.

Reply:Thanks.   Hardfacing is a pain in the azz.  I have it in rolls of wire.  It goes on like crap.  Those aren't teeth, they are nubs. Looking good.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Im Suprised nobody has commented on the lathe in the last pic Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:the night before last i went out to start up my welder to find the little brass shaft for the the butterfly type throttle valve was broken  . I dont know what caused this or why, maybe just cause it was old, but since i dont know of any lincoln dealers im going to try to make one out of a brass punch and that nifty lathe. I will try to post some pics of the repair successful or not later. mean while ill be using the old buzzbox to finish the job.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.

Reply:Are you going to hard face the edges also? Heres what I mean. Hopefully it works Attached Images
Reply:yup, i have the teeth and the cutting edge hardfaced, i have the next bucket to do still. how did you resize the pic like that? knowing how to resize the pics when i post would sure help!Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:Hey Doug when I download pics to the PC I open them with paint. Just right click on the photo and select open with paint then, you can downsize them. Its in the image on the toolbar. Go to stretch or scew then enter in the no.'s if you want it smaller it will be like 20-30 just put the same number for LxW

Reply:Wow, is that hard facing rod?I used it once and it looked nothing like yours!  That is a good hard face job.Me!
Reply:Great work!!What rods did you use for the hard facing?
Reply:The rod Im useing for the hardfaceing is blueshield hard58 5/32 somewhere around 165 amps, the build up was 1/8 7018. I was using the small table so i didnt position it so all the  welds were flat, not too much room on it. instead i ran vertical stringers up on an angle on the bottom side, On the wear plate part. I didnt even make many lines to follow. I will do some close ups. remember i still got one more bucket to do keep following!Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:Is that snow or ice your welding on?What do you use for insulation. Pretty dangerous welding on that in my eyes, when using a stick??
Reply:I had the opportunity last fall to put a new bottom in a mini bucket about the same size and made new teeth out of 1 inch ar plate. The last bucket I had done was a Cat 5130 excavator with the bottom rolled by the supplier for the mini I took normal 3/16 plate and bent it into shape with a hammer for the bucket lip I used an old piece of cutting edge of my 450 dozer. It was fun being able to handle a bucket without a crane for a change and it only took 3 hours from start to finish  instead of 3 days of air arcing
Reply:Comming out good
Reply:Hard to believe that its been six years since I did that. Six years that SA 200 been sitting in the back yard broken. I took the carb to an old friend of my dads cause he said he fixed the same thing on his, then he gave me the carb off his tractor and it never even worked. should get around to contacting him. Doing this buckets was a learning experience, The guy would only give me 60 bucks and let me keep the remainder of the box of rod, but looking back on it now, I could have done a lot nicer job. I would have changed the angle of the teeth, not went all the way up with the waffle pattern but went along the bottom of the sides with it. welded straighter, hard faced all the edges. And not for $60 bucks!Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:Teeth? where are the teeth you speak of? looks to me the teeth got worn off to nothing and so did the shanks? after looking at your welding helmet im wondering what your lungs look like, get a exhaust fan and keep that smoke out of your face..
Reply:Yeah I suppose I would install new teeth/ shanks. But not for free. I don't have a gouger or a torch at home to cut the old ones out anyway. It would be too painful to knock them off with a grinder. Like I said, that was 6 years ago, I do things differently now and not for free. I was insulted back then for the 60 bucks he paid me. I did this job before we built the new shop, the old one was too small to weld in so id weld outside. I still stick weld outside and for when I do weld inside I have a good exhaust fan that's way over powered, cant turn it on without the doors being open. for the record, I keep my head out of the fumes, and I just had xrays and CT scans done on my lungs to prepare for a medication I needed to start taking. My lungs are healthy. Now what else you want to talk about?Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:Those are really cute and cool!On your carb, you can get a New Zenith on ebay . IF you live close to a Tractor Supply Store they have some carb parts.
Reply:I have found that Grouser bar works for a guide better than marking. Just lay it about half an inch from where you want your bead and keep the same distance away with your arc. It also makes a good burn guide for cutting straight lines
