Hello people, i had someone approach me and ask if i could build a bumper, handed me a picture and basically said to build that.  This took me about 30-35 hours total, i bought a jd squared model 3 bender for this and love it.  will eventually convert it over to a hydraulic set up, but it bends 2"x.120 tubing pretty good manually as long as it is mounted to a very sturdy thing.  He wanted the thing to be heavy duty, so i went with 2"x.120 round tubing for the main frame, 10ga steel for the panels and skid plate, 1.5"x.120 for the skidplate frame, and 4x4" and 2x4" 10ga tube for the mounts.  I am very happy with how it turned out, it would have been nice to have a tubing notcher, but i made due without.  It will be going on a 98 F150 I believe.  Here is a picture of the mounts, they bolt right onto the frame.  [IMG][/IMG]These are pictures starting to build the frame.  [IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]
Reply:This is when I made the panels and welded them in.  [IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]This was not lining up good, so i had to cut it, space it out, and then weld it back up and grind it down.  [IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]Now, the fun part...just kidding, this was kinda annoying, especially trying to bend 25" of 10ga around a 5.5" radius by myself.  I ended up making 3 1/16" deep score marks on the back side and of course heated the metal up and it went alright.  [IMG][/IMG]Ended up having to cut the frame and shorten it and make it squre, i kinda was off a little bit bending it because of all the bends on one piece.  [IMG][/IMG]cut out all the sheet metal with a jigsaw, it went better than i thought it would.  [IMG][/IMG]It still needed some trimming, but came out pretty good[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]
Reply:This is it pretty much finished, still needs to be cleaned up and have the welds ground down and what not.  [IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]And there it is, like i said, i am very happy with how it turned out.  it just needs to be cleaned up, cap off the skid plate, and painted.  this is the first bumper i have done, so really pumped with it actually!Last edited by Superlate62; 03-25-2014 at 07:13 PM.
Reply:Holy smokes! One of the best bumpers I have seen. The end caps look great, the welds are very clean, and the look is very aggressive! That is a sweet build.BUT, I couldn't help but notice that big black thing in the background...Any reason you have a stock car in your garage? I know we all have toys, like bikes, atvs, bla bla bla. But man! Gotta make a thread about that car man!
