Reply:Your boss should buy a copy of the spec, and a SWPS from the AWS bookstore. From what I recall, D1.3 is sheet metal, and qualifies as a single pass weld. In other words there is no cap. Now you can qualify a double bevel groove weld, but welds are from both sides. I could be wrong but the spec and SWPS should tell all.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.

Reply:I think you misread his post Terry. He's doing D1.1 vertical ( 3G). Chevy, your 1st pict looks like you are favoring the left side. Left toe looks good, but you have some undercut on the right. I see a bit of that again in pict #2. There it might be that I'm seeing something not there due to the camera optics, but #1 is definitely undercut. My copy of D1.1 is a bit old ('98). From what I read, looks like your cap shouldn't exceed 1/8" unless it's called to be flush, then it shouldn't exceed 1/32" below flush. Reply:Thank you that's what I was looking for and yes I was favoring my left side. And yes that's under cut I admit it. I haven't done vert up since school 4years ago now they want me to go and pass this test. So I've been practicing my but off. I have found if I square my self up with the test plates I do better. And all most all my plates fall within the 1/8 and under cap. So I should be good. Originally Posted by DSWI think you misread his post Terry. He's doing D1.1 vertical ( 3G). Reply:Is that the 1in test? It looks good I'm really happy with how mines been comeing out after I got some advice from a fellow worker. And been practicing at home a lot. Originally Posted by FlashedThis was one of my cap passes. Maybe it'll help. Critique the heck out of it fellas.
Reply:Thanks! No sir, just 1/2" plate. I'm not to happy with my cap pass but that's just me being picky I'm sure. The cap pass was also my hardest to "tie down". I think I took 3 3/8" test plates before jumping to the 1/2" plate. I had to square up and look down the gun from directly behind it to see my right side tying in.
Reply:Besides the undercut, those plates look good.i second the 1/8" reinforcement ... unless the inspector or procedure calls for something different.  I just did this same test about 2 months ago for a new employer.  First test i had taken in 6 years.  Then they tossed a 3/8" 3g on me with 1/16" 71T1 wire .... that one worried me but it was surprisingly easier than the 70s-2 test for me.AWS CWI xxxx21711968 SA200  Originally Posted by WelderMike  I hate being bipolar, It's awesome.
