Hey guys, im having an issue with some 304SS welds. Im trying to get my bead width a little wider but im having a hard time with it. I can only put so many amps into it before it starts making the puddle erratic almost like its boiling, and even if I use high amps and high travel speed it just burns it. But with lower amps where I get good color and puddle formation I get fairly narrow and shallow beads. I thought maybe using 3/32 filler instead of 1/16 would allow me to run the amps hotter and then cool it with quicker filler dips but the rod kept sticking to the edge of the puddle and it would still overheat the metal. Im welding on sch10 with about 90-100amps, #9 gas lens. Ive seen some guys get like 1/2" wide beads on this type of material and I just cant figure out how they do it.

Reply:You got high speed pulse?Getting 1/2" welds on sched 10? What diameter pipe is that? Don't think you are going to get them that big without a wash/weave. Reply:you need to use 1/8 rod and do not dap the rod but leave it in the puddle, you must make the puddle go where you want it to, ss is lazy
