Building this for our a customer to bow hunt out of. His plan is to strap it to a tree as well as anchor it to the ground along with stakes in each leg. Deck height will be right around 17', with 6" of adjustment on each foot. Deck dimensions are roughly 44" across.
Reply:Materials used are 3x1x11 gauge, 2.25x2.25"x12 ga for the leg pockets, 1/4"x2" strap for the gussets, 2"x2"x11 gauge for the legs, and 1.75"x1.75"x14 ga for the adjustable inserts for the legs.

Reply:I added a spot to snug it up against the tree along with some tie down points.
Reply:these are 1.75" square tubing that will go inside the 2" legs to give it a little bit of adjustability.
Reply:Excellent fitment and welding, that's the nicest stand/tree stand I have ever seen.Mechanical Engineer

Reply:The seat will be a boat seat bolted through the exp metal with 1/4" strap on the bottom.  As for the ladder, it will be on one of the legs.
Reply:I'm overbuilding this one because it is my first.  How thin would you guys go on the legs?  For my next ones, the deck will still be 11 gauge due to me having a whole bundle of 3x1x11 ga, but for the 2" square I have some cold rolled 16 gauge that I think would work for anything 15' and under.  Thoughts?
Reply:Great fab work, way too tremendous for my liking, but regardless of me you give the customer what he want's sometimes and don't talk your way out of money LOL. The two tubes that go up against the tree in the Y shape need some sort of serrated saw tooth on them so when it gets strapped in they bite into the tree so it can't slip around for safety. Great work tho bud! I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:The stand looks nicely built, my biggest concern would be the liability if it ever fell or someone fell out of it.
Reply:Between being ratchet strapped to the tree trunk, legs staked, and anchored in the middle of the deck via an eye bolt and come along as well as wearing the hunter wearing a safety harness hooked to the tree, I would hope he would be ok. The liability did cross my mind though, I am currently shopping for general liability insurance.

Reply:Lemme preface this with a comment....... NICE WORKIn my neck of the woods we prefer to do it the studly way.  Chase down the deer with a goodly sized club  None of this ambush bull##it.Every action should come with a reaction.  If yer gonna shoot at it, it ought to be able to shoot back  BESIDES........I LIKE BEEF!But in all truth, I do ship a few animals to the slaughterhouse.  That's sort of a no-balls thing too.In a perfect world.........."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:I like your welding table with the trailer jacks and wheels!  Tree stand is nicely built but too heavy for me.  Best  bob
Reply:Nice workmanship.  That's some expensive venison by the time he pays for that.
Reply:Beautiful Workmanship.  But the 45 degree braces should never be welded to the center of the tubing.  That is the weakest place to mount them.  MacOriginally Posted by Tool MakerBeautiful Workmanship.  But the 45 degree braces should never be welded to the center of the tubing.  That is the weakest place to mount them.  Mac
Reply:I've done a little math over the years and have determined that between duck and deer we have some of the most expensive meat money can buy. If I manage to shoot my 1 allotted deer this year it will cost me somewhere around $75/lb. At the rate I'm going now my duck will be costing me $3-400/lb (hardly any ducks around)

Reply:Nice work! I agree though it looks heavy. My portable stand is made out of all 1/8" aluminum or possibly even thinner. If this is a drive up to and one time set up stand I guess there is no problem about the weight. Our permanent stands are probably over 500 pounds of wood nailed and screwed to trees. Some guys around here have houses for deer hunting stands.  I have seen hunting stands with siding, storm and screen doors, heaters, TV's, satellite dishes, nice anderson windows on all sides, shingled roofs, and on and on. People take it pretty serious around here. lol
Reply:Originally Posted by Slumpbuster36Noted, what would you suggest? I usually use tubing for gussets, but decided I would try them like this. I don't think they're going to ever be tested weight wise so it shouldn't matter, but good to know.
Reply:Looks great, don't forget to take pictures with it in action.
Reply:Great welding.  I wouldn't worry about the ladder.  You have the rungs welded top and bottom and to the vertical handrail.  I believe the customer will see and have a conversation with Bigfoot before a ladder rung gives way completely.
Reply:It's all set up, all he needs is his seat bolted on and it will be ready to go! FYI it just took two guys and a pickup truck to get it in the air, he plans on leaving it in this spot for a looong time.
Reply:And no worries about someone (EASILY) stealing it! Nice work!
Reply:hey. how did you do bow hunting so far this year?..saw a few does but too far to take a shot, but they will be frezeer meat in november..lolOf all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
