Manual on my Lincoln 500 amp HI-Freq calls for installing a by-pass condenser when used with a transformer welder. The kit came with the box, I didn't acquire the welder. Can an off the shelf condenser (or additional components) be sized to this 500 amp unit? I didn't install this condenser the first time and something fried. Was told by tech at that time you need to down rate the welder when running AC with Hi-freq, he didn't mention anything about the lack of this by-pass condenser.Any ideas? Thanks,Alan
Reply:Something fried on the hi-freq unit or something fried on the welder? I would think if something fried on the hi-freq unit, it wasn't because of the missing condenser (capacitor), since the manual says the bypass condensor is to protect the welder. Can you supply more info on what fried?- John

Reply:I had to put one in my Weldmanpower G7. Its just a cap across the outputs. I bought it from Lincoln for a few bucks. Never had any trouble tigging on AC with it at all.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I am not clear on when or why this is required. I have a Ranger 9 and a Hi Freq Tig Module. Reply:More than likely it is required to lower the output voltage of the torch output during the hi-freq stage if the torch isn't close enough to the work to conduct. For example, you accidentally stepped on the foot control with the torch in mid air."Common sense is not very common"http://www.tahoekeyshome.com
