who here has a water bucket below their welding table? well i do and i laid my plasma torch down kind of hanging off the side of the table so i could flip over a gate i was working on when, all of a sudden there was a lightening show going on in bottom of my water bucket , UNDER WATER!!!!!. so me not being the sharpest knife in the drawer yanked it out and ran to unplug machine. luckily i took everything apart in the torch blew it all dry with air compressor, put back together, and everything works as it should. you should see the "show" under water, my water was either boiling or just bubbling, either way just bout lost the old girl tonight, lol.MM 251MM 135Lincoln Pro cut 55Bobcat 250Miller Thunderbolt ac/dcolder ac forneyJackson nexgen 3n13-Smith OP setups97 Dodge dieselMakita chopsawJet swivel head bandsawlincoln tig 300/30030a spoolgunpuma port. gas air comp.

Reply:Aww, what's the big deal. Plasma cutting under water keeps the fumes down and suppresses the flash.JK
Reply:It was probably just residual heat and not electric current causing any reaction.Edit - Oh, "lightning show," I guess that had to be power.Last edited by denrep; 01-26-2011 at 09:48 AM.
Reply:Where are the pictures of the 'show'? The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:Unless the start signal is active...there should have only been control voltage in the torch handle...probably under 24 volts. Must have been something in the control ciircuitry that shorted the start and activated the DC power. We actually custom built some hand torches years ago for an emergency underwater repair at a nuke facility in Japan.....a team of divers used the torches 24/7 for a few weeks with no issues.Jim
Reply:I thought this was just called submerged-arc????Glad your ok. Remember next time, power off at breaker first! What we want to know now is....have you moved the bucket of water else where??????200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
Reply:bert, actually no i havnt moved the bucket o water, its just in a good spot. i hav however started paying more attention to where my torch is today, and my mig gun for that matter. kwMM 251MM 135Lincoln Pro cut 55Bobcat 250Miller Thunderbolt ac/dcolder ac forneyJackson nexgen 3n13-Smith OP setups97 Dodge dieselMakita chopsawJet swivel head bandsawlincoln tig 300/30030a spoolgunpuma port. gas air comp.
