I have built a lot of fence and always made a jig on the table then tore it apart when I was done. Well I got a rather large job so I decided to built a jig for panels that I could keep. This jig will work with panels from 4'-6' tall and 6'-8' wide. When I built panels the old way it took me roughly 40 mins to put all the pieces in place, tack, and weld out. With the new jig I can place all the pieces, tack, weld out (all 4 sides of each picket) in 13 mins. So this is a major improvement when your building 100 + panels.http://s18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...y/Panel%20Jig/Last edited by BryanDowdy; 10-28-2010 at 12:19 AM.Dynamic MetalworksMontrose, CODynMetalworks.com
Reply:Great looking setup...for us beginners; how do you keep it from bowing? Do you alternate from side to side and end to end, once you have all your pickets and rails in place? /Jay

Reply:Are you still marking the rails before for picket placement? If so you need some spacers between the picket so all you have to do in drop the picket in and weld. You want to be able to drop your helmet and weld until the side in completely done. 13 min. is really good. It typically takes me about 20 min from empty table to empty table.Congratulations on your fence job.

Reply:Did you notch the top and bottom rails of the jig for your pickets to drop in? I couldn't tell from the pic maybe I'm looking at it wrong. And if you did how did you cut the notches? |
