Gate nearing completion

Hello all,Here are a few photos of a Pivoting-sliding cantilver gate that I have built for my house. The two sections are 13' 4" each and the cantilever opening is 10', basic structure is 6x6x3/8 pivot post bolted to a rebar cage embeded in 24" dia 10' deep hole filled with concrete, other posts are 5x5x3/16 the gate is built of 2x4 retangular and 1.25 square tube with A606 corten woven between the pickets. I still have to design  install the atomatic openers on the slider and pivot sections complete the end post( brown in the photos ), drypack the baseplates and install a 28' x 30' aluminum cover over the concrete pad behind the gate, I live in sunny Phoenix Az so shade is a necessity!Thanks for lookingFillister Attached ImagesLast edited by zapster; 12-26-2013 at 03:42 PM.

Reply:Docwelder,Just some from a left over project really nothing more than 2 7/6 od DOM countered bored for a radial bearing with a 1" id. A 1" od 3/4 id sleeve drops through the bearing assembly and a 3/4 bolt retains the barrel assembly to the hinge pad.

I have a couple of questions?1. the A606-4 type steel: will it rust and drip on to the painted metal?2. what is the benefit of making the gate sliding and hinged? why not just make the gate split in the middle and have it open from a hinged left and right.3. how did you get a 10' deep hole dug?

Reply:I just finished up two 175' guard rails on a bridge for the U.S Forest Service / U.S. Dept Of Agri. all 8" Corten channel iron. Stuff developes a layer of oxidation that doesn't require any protective covering, was told USS Corp has a patent on it.

Reply:Love the gate.  And I really like the idea of a custom made slide gate operator mounted on the swing/master gate.  I assume you're not going to have the swing operated because its use will be occasional?Llife is good

The gate has taken some time off as I have started to work on a press break attachment for my 50 ton hydraulic press, thought the motor and gear box mounts for the gate should be bent.Thanks for complements I spent an awful lot of design time on the cantilever system.
