Bed Frame Welding Cart

Someone left a treasure by the dumpster behind the shop, a bed frame. Not just any bed frame, but one from a hospital bed.Much beefier than the usual frames that I've run across.I decided to build a cart for my Miller 211 using as much of the frame as I could.Here's the frame broken down.Here's the cart welded up with out the lead hangers in it's unpainted state. Sorry for the lack of photos while I was building it, but you wouldn't want to see my crappy welds.Here's the frame getting a coat of Rustoleum Sail Blue after being sanded and primed.Here's the completed cart with lead hangers but with out the filing cabinet in the bottom.Continued next post
Reply:I added a 3 drawer filing cabinet I found at a thrift store for storing wire and tools.Here's a couple of views of the cart loaded up. I built it wide enough to hold two bottles, 75/25 and argon for aluminum.Here's all that was left of the bed frame, still some usable pieces for other projects.I also used some flat bar,angle iron, channel and expanded metal in addition to the frame.Last edited by CamW; 04-11-2014 at 02:44 AM.

Reply:Great lookin project,!!! And you did your part in saving the planet,,,I try to save the planet every time I go to dump out our trash trailer at transfer station. You cannot believe what I have picked up including all the bed frames I come across as most of them are 1 1/2" X 1 1/2" and the material is great for most projects around the house. Nice job!

Reply:The brown epoxy paint smelled up the shop pretty bad, and its pretty tough stuff. I wire wheeled off what I could, bead blasting with aluminum oxide didn't touch it.I still have the drive motors and control box, one motor works one is dead. I'm trying to figure out what to make with it.Does anyone need a store bought cart? I'll let it go cheap!

Reply:i picked up one of those bed frames today.  i already have store bought carts so i'm not sure what to make out of mine.  i'm the most uncreative person i know .great job on your cart
