Morning  Just got my SA200 running and have a prob..(low current) just a minimal spark at rod kinda like a 12 volt batteryengine does not rev to working RPM, thought it may be the idler solinoid but if i flip the fast idle switch it speeds up so i guess that workingmachine has sat not running for some years.Any ideas?ThanksCrittr
Reply:range switch maybe. turn the dials, mabybe not making contact. check for loose wires.
Reply:Does it weld when you turn the idler switch to high?Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:If you don't have auxiliary power either, it may just need to be flashed.  Recommended way is to remove the exciter cover and lift one exciter brush.Use a DC power source of at least 12 volts DC and touch the positive lead to the right brush connection stud, and the negative lead to the left connection stud.  Hold for a few seconds, replace the brush, start the machine and hope for the best.If you have auxiliary power, the problem may be more serious.Cheers,Bob
Reply:Well I have aux power plugged my grinder in and engine increased speed and grinder worked fine, i got so frustrated that i shorted across the main cable lugs thinking maybe there was something wrong with the leads and still got the same result. no increase in rpm and only min. spark (about like a six volt battery no matter what the amps were set toThanksCrittr
Reply:That's exactly what they do when you don't have your remote rheostat plugged in so the first thing I'd check is the rheostat wiring.JTMcC.

Reply:JTMcC is right, you're probably not getting current through the shunt coils in the welding generator.  That power comes through the rheostat and remote switch, if you have one.  Check that wiring thoroughly.  If the wiring, remote switch, and rheostat are good, measure the resistance between the blue and brown wires that come out of the generator.  You'll have to disconnect one of these leads in order to get an accurate resistance reading. The resistance should read about 40 ohms.  If the resistance is very high, check the blue and brown wires for damage.  Also find the wires connecting the shunt coils together inside the generator.  If all the wiring is good, you probably have open shunt coils.... and that's bad!If you find you may have bad shunt coils, you may want to have a pro check it just to be sure.Bob
