Hey guys.. What kindof metal break would I need to do this type of profile on .125" Aluminum up to 36" long.? Don't get a call for it very often (yet) but it would sure be nice on occasion. Pictured is the bottom of a small jon boat console, apparently once owned by Bonnie & Clyde.Thanx for any helpful info. d:^) Schneeks..Last edited by Schneeky; 02-19-2011 at 08:41 PM.ESAB 161 LTSCommunicate & adapt, diggit.?ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ
Reply:most any will do it, make the two bends nearest the edges first, then the next nearest bends, with the main portion of the sheet in the press, and the same situation of the sheet for the final two bendsLast edited by turk; 02-19-2011 at 08:33 PM.Dynasty 200DXPassport plus w/ spoolmate 100victor 315c oxy/(act and prop)Miller digital elitemilwaukee power tools
Reply:I've never actually seen a metal brake work. Would you do the smaller(shorter) breaks t'wards the bottom of the pic first, and then the bigger(longer) breaks afterwards.? Thanx.. d:^) Schneeks..PS- We must have been editing at the same time.. Last edited by Schneeky; 02-19-2011 at 08:42 PM.ESAB 161 LTSCommunicate & adapt, diggit.?ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ
Reply:Yup, it's possible with both a press and a leaf brake. It'd be a piece of cake on a press brake with a goose-neck die but could be a bit tricky on a leaf brake depending on how high the clamp leaf can be raised.Visit Tensaiteki.com
Reply:Allrighty.. Did a little more searching and found some plans for homemade brakes. Doesn't look to be overly difficult and pretty effective, from what I could tell. Can you experienced guys see any limitations or flaws in the design.? Or suggest improvements that would make it better.? http://www.majorleagueduning.com/tech/Brake/Brake.htmIf I were to wager a guess I'd say it's something similar to a "leaf" brake.Anyone else have pics/plans for simple brakes that can be used on thin-ish sheet.?Portable or some sortof stow-away mounting solutions.? Your help is appreciated.. d:^) Schneeks..ESAB 161 LTSCommunicate & adapt, diggit.?ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

Reply:Definitely worth considering that option BB. It ain't like this schtuff shows up that often. Only PITA being that those cats usually percieve time on a geological scale.!! Add the "Southport adjustment" to that and the dang jon boat may have already corroded to nothing by the time it gets back. The way I work around here, inna coupla days I'm off on somethin else. Sure would be handy if I could pull it off somehow. Might check with my local buds. Ya never know what lurks in the dark hidden corners of their shops.. d:^) Schneeks..ESAB 161 LTSCommunicate & adapt, diggit.?ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ |
