Hi, allMy bandsaw been cutting pretty crooked for a few years now. I know it's not the blades I had 3 news on.  The rollers and bearings all feel tight. It's got about .060 run out in 6'' of travel. the wrost is about the last inch. the whole head of the saw moves left to right.   The hinge pins hole are egged  out. I don't know how to fix this?  I check it out with a  Caliper and it looks like the hole on the blade side is about .005 out, and this shoulder bolt about .005 under.A) new shoulder bolt and drill out hole in saw and bush.or a bigger shoulder and drill the hole up 1 size. B) new longer shoulder bolt and weld a new piece with a holeC) put in on craiglist and start overopen for ideasThanks, Daye Attached ImagesPound to fit, paint to match

Reply:When mine starts cutting crooked I change the blade and if that doesn't help I check the guide bearings and make sure they are OK.  If it appears that it is the pivots for the head I would drill them out and put in bushings.  Make sure the pivot bolt isn't worn too.
Reply:Well, I wouldn't try to sell it as is...that just makes it someone else's problem and they'll be on here next week asking us the same questions. Either fix it or scrap it.I prefer to fix it...that's why I keep buying tools....tools to fix the tool that I bought to fix that other tool....It's a horrible circle....Anyway, I would drill out the holes and use bushings to bring the hole sizes back to whatever bolt you want to use. The trick may be drilling the holes in the right spot so that when you put it all together the saw still cuts straight. As long as you are reasonably close, hopefully the adjustments on the blade and/or vise will tune out the last bit of error.Andrew
Reply:is this a dual colum wells or a single pivot wells? have a bigger overall pic of the saw?Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:Tig, if you will join the 4X6 Yahoo group and do the alignment procedure it will solve most of your issues,  It takes about an hour and really brings those little saws alive.  It helps crooked and off tracking as well as blade jumping off and adjustment issues.  Worth a try.  I am a member and it helped my 4X6 get straightened out.BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?
Reply:thats sounds good I'll have to try that out.  Thanks DayeDualie I think it's single ???   Here's a few more picsMy only idea is.  drill the 1/2'' hole out to 9/16'' or 5/8'' make a brass bushing to that dia. and 3/8'' inside hole, and use a std. 3/8'' fine thread bolt with the same shoulder length Attached ImagesPound to fit, paint to match
Reply:I send an E-mail off to W.F.Well. fast friendly responds. but, not to helpful.   I truned down the shoulder bolt down to .375 and drilled the hinge out to 9/16", and made a brass bushing . Put it back together and checked runout it looked about .040 in 6"  abour .020 better.  I'll do the same for the otherside and see what happens Attached ImagesPound to fit, paint to match
Reply:Tig,I am very interested in how your repair works out, I have a 1975 A-7 WF Wells saw and it has the head wobble problem. I was tearing up blades and stripping teeth. I tightened the pivot bolts which helps some, but I am pretty sure I need to put some bushings in. Right now I am using the saw with a small table installed as a verticle saw which works out very well for my purposes. If I ever need to use it as a horizontal saw I need to fix the wobble. If you call WF Wells and speak to Doug, he can tell you all sorts of info about Wells and your saw, if you are interested. They do still have some repair parts for these saws if you need parts and will email an owners manual if you ask.269 279 5123.Mark

Reply:In case you haven't joined the bandsaw group on Yahoo,  here is the guide to align the blade.  It does fix most problems. Attached ImagesBasic blade adjustment and tracking - rev-1.pdf (26.9 KB, 178 views)

Reply:Tig,Did you end up drilling out the frame holes? I need to look and see if my frame holes are egged out, or my bolts are worn or both. I am hesitant to try to re drill my holes, if they need it, I am not sure how to get them in the correct locations. A machinist I'm not, I can get bushings turned at work. Just need to get correctly placed holes drilled. Glad Doug was a help.
Reply:I would have removed the upper and bored the holes, pressed in 660 CA Bronze bushings and called it good.  An alemite fitting added to each pivot for good measure.
