Hi, it may be a longshot, but has anyone ever tried or heard of converting a welder\generator to run on 220v power to make it into an electric welder? If I cant get the part for my ranger machine, I would possibly like to use it as an electric welder. Thanks
Reply:Are you talking about spinning the generator/welder with an electric motor rather than a gasoline one? What part prevents you from repairing your Ranger?Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:I cannot seem to find a stator assy. for my ranger 8. Hooking 220v from panel box to the welding leads S1, C1 leads to use machine as an electric welder, I figure the generator part of the welder puts out 120v to each lead to the welder. I really want to keep the machine so I figured if I can do that I would save about $600.00 on a good arc welder.
Reply:I don't think it would work. Have you checked Ebay for a Ranger with a bad motor?
Reply:I tries everywhere. I will just have to keep searching or just brake down and find another machine.

Reply:GETZ welding In Dothan, Alabama has 4 used Ranger 8's that he is selling dirt cheap. He told me the other day while I was at Airgas that he needs to move them. I'm not sure what he wants for them, but might be worth a call. if you're interested let me know and I will find out more and get you the contact info. I have a good friend who took one of my old Miller bobcats that slung a rod, and put it in his farm shop. He mounted an electric motor he had laying around, on it in place of the gas engine. What suprised me is it seems to weld smoother now than it did when I had it on the truck with the gas engine.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:Thanks guys, I appreciate the help, and if the guy in Ala. is up to shipping one, i might be interested. I would definately be interested in a whole machine but I live in NJ and the shipping would probably be not cheap.
Reply:Jerseydevil, I will give him a call monday and find out what he has and what he is willing to do on shipping and price and let ya know.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:Thanks Hammack.
