hello,Sorry for posting a thread about this, but im debating on getting the pt225 or pt275. i just need a some professional opinions on which would be better for me.Im mostly going to be welding aluminum and some stainless steel and mild steel, but mostly just aluminum. im not welding anything to thick, mostly around 1/8 inch thick plating or a littler higher.when i was at welding school (over now), i used the pt275, and loved it, i did use the syncrowave 250 and liked it to, couldnt really tell to much of a difference between the two, however im still a novice welder. But i really like the lincoln precision. Now as i researched different places the price for the 275 is a bit to high for me where as the 225 is in my range with a ready to go package, but i can save up for the 275 if i wanted without all the accessories for about 600 dollars or so more and then buy what i need, but even then it would still add up.i compared the two together and of coarse the 275 is better, but for the price, which is really worth it?those of you that used them or own one, which would you get if you were in my situation? or think would be better for me?thanks, brent
Reply:The 225, especially since it's in your price range and you don't think you'll be doing much more than 1/8". Don't overbuy if you don't have the money. That's why 2/3 of the US population is in debt.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:crap i just now realized i posted this up in the wrong section, SORRY. be great if it can be moved to the lincoln discussion forum.

Reply:the biggest difference is rating and duty cyclethe 225 is maxed out for 225a, and at 20% duty cyclethe 275, is rated for 275a at 40%. with a max amperage in the range of 335a.what this all means (without looking at the 225 for specs) isat 150 amps, the 225 may be at a 50% duty cyclethe 275 will run 150a with a 100% duty cyclewhen welding with high amps, you may need to take a break with the smaller machine more often to let it cool. its not a real good idea to keep kickin in the thermal protection, or so im told. ive heard its hard on the machinesi have a lincoln squarewave 255.....and have never tripped duty cycle.its a 1990's version of the pt.   todd
