Potentiometer Problem

I have a Invertec V350 pro and I’m having some problems with the Amp readings on the digital display.  When the machine is fired up the dial does not seem to work properly.  If I turn it to one extreme or the other the readings very slowly increase or decrease, but not at all like it should.  This problem just started a few days ago.  Sometimes the dial works fine and others it works as I just described.  Any suggestions?  Anyone ever have this happen before?Thanks for all replies.

Reply:Hi David.....I bought it used.  It is a 2001 model, so it's not under warrenty.  Have you ever had the potentiometer sticking?

Reply:Are you able to get your max and minimum settings when you turn it? If not I'd suspect dirt or moisture in the potentionmeter. If it's board mounted might be hairline crack in the pc board as it seems intermittent you mentioned. If mounted remotely check for partially broken wire(some of the strands broken but not all). Reply:I am pretty sure its a 10K ohm pot.  you can buy them at radio shack or better yet just get a new one from lincoln.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:I will try the 10k ohm pot....what ever that is?  I migged AL all day and then tigged some 1/4 low carbon 316 and she worked great.  Every time I shut down and fired up it worked fine.  Best I fix the problem though - before it shuts me down!

Reply:Its right behind the knob   10,000 ohm Potentiometer.  Linear taper.  Hook up the new one the same as the old one.  Should be 3 wires.  If you buy one the same physical size, you should have the wattage correct.You may also be able to spray it out with "tunacleana"  Tuner Cleaner.  The one in my LN-25 got moisture in it and I took it apart on the jobsite and cleaned it.  Worked great after that.  Now I have a rubber sheet I throw over it if it starts to sprinkle.  Can't weld in the rain.I have not had my machine apart.  No reason too.  My son was using it today with an LN-25 writing his name on some square tubing.
