I am new to the forum and need help with my machine. A few weeks ago I was welding and all of the sudden my wire feed stopped.I opened the side cover to see what was going on but everything looked fine I decided to try to turn the roller with a pair of pliers and it was free.I kept pulling the trigger and then as fast as it stopped it started feeding again I thought ok and started back welding. The machine then would not get near as hot as it used to and after maby five minutes it will throw a breaker.Reset it and five more minutes of melting wire on top of a piece of metal it will not get hot enough to penetrate. Any ideas?
Reply:While we ponder it, tell us everything else. All settings, polarity, wire, shielding gas, age of machine, extension cord, size of circuit and is it dedicated, thickness of material (we assume steel.)
Reply:Welcome to Weldingweb. As Mac has stated, we need more information. Have you also tried calling the manufacturer?John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:Sorry not to offer all the info. The machine is probably at least 10 years old.I am using the flux core 035 wire on a 15 amp breaker with the plug right outside the breaker box. The materal is steel I have welded on 1/8 inch and can penetrate all the way through if you go very slow. When you move up to 3/16 it seems to not penatrate at all.It might be time to move on to a new machine but I have become very used to it and hate to see it go. I have been using this setup just like it is since it was new and this is the first problem I have had. |
