Reply:Originally Posted by bassboy1For those of us that work off the bench, around a bunch of obstacles, on aluminum (eliminating the ability to scratch start), it would be quite handy.  I do a lot of work on smaller boats, in the 15 - 18' range.  As such, a lot of my work is just above waist level, allowing me to have the pedal on the ground, and weld from a standing position.  As I go from side to side, I'm having to kick the pedal under the rig, then when I get to the other side, bend down, and fish it the rest of the way out.  The problem arises when I'm working just above the trailer wheel, and as I move forward and backward, tacking various parts (I do a lot of finish welding from inside the boat), I have to keep sliding the pedal around behind the wheel, just to move backward 18 inches.  With the wireless pedal, I could easily kick it around the face of the wheel, and have it follow me around.  As I move around the transom of a boat, or up around the bow, I could kick the pedal around as I move, without having to worry about fishing it back behind a wheel or tongue jack, or whatever else I have laying on the floor.  In the boat, it could be an advantage too.  I generally have my torch and ground lead draped over everything, and it isn't too hard to move around, but the pedal, having to be lower down, often snakes through things, sometimes is sitting in an open hatch while I sit on the deck, etc.  I can see it's potential.I don't know if it is $589 worth of nice at this point, but in a year or so, if reviews seem to be good, I can very well see myself having one.The two problems I see with it right off is that a) it only fits the 14 pin plugs (my TA-185 has an 8 pin plug) and b) the pedal itself is too big.  When welding while standing, I have come to fancy the lower profile pedal that the TA-185 comes with, over the taller Miller pedals.  I don't know how thrilled I'd be to loose my lower profile pedal.
Reply:One less cable? I could see this being an advantage some of the time. Its pricy though. Thought about it and considered it may be nice to have untill DesertRider said it won't work on TB. If I could have have used it on Syncro and Trailblazer maybe I would be able to talk myself into buying one-but....... And $1000 for hand remote? I would like to have one but thats going on the I want list, not the I need list.PeterEquipment:2  old paws2  eyes (that don't look so good)1  bad back
Reply:Yeah I agree, I'd have to be working on a lot of high rise structures with stick or a volt-sense feeder before I would consider dropping $1K on a wireless hand remote.Miller has a new system called WCC, which uses a wcc-enabled power supply (they have a version of XMT that is wcc-capable) and a wcc-enabled volt-sense wire feeder (they have a wcc-capable Suitcase VS now).  With their WCC system, the wcc version of the Suitcase VS, which has an added voltage pot on the face of the feeder, can adjust the voltage on the power source, just like an RC feeder, but it doesn't use a separate remote cable.  There is a sequence you do, I think pressing the gun trigger a certain number of times, I forget, when not welding that allows the wcc-VS feeder to send a signal back to the wcc-XMT, via the weld power lead, that tells it to change the voltage setting.  The system can also be used with certain other non-wcc-enabled power sources that have remote 14-pin outlet, if you get the seprate wcc controller box.  The Pro 300 is one of the engine drives the control box will work with.  This sounded quite interesting, being able to use a VS feeder say 300 feet from the truck and still be able to change the voltage at the feeder, without running a separate hand remote.  When I looked up the price, I saw the price difference between a regular XMT and Suitcase VS package, versus a wcc-XMT and wcc-Suitcase package, was about $3500 more for the wcc capability.   I think at that price, I'd rather spend only $1000 and use the wireless hand remote.  Not that I need either of these technologies.  It is nice to check them out though.Last edited by DesertRider33; 10-17-2010 at 04:35 PM.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:DR33i asked miller if they had a wirless remote coming out for the 12RC. but they said no.i think tig pedals use 4 wires but the wirefeeder uses 8.G
Reply:That $590 looks more like $385 after a section 179 tax deduction. Spread over 260 biz days, that's about $1.50 a day.If it saves just 5 minutes a day, that's over 21 hours saved for the whole year. So that first year it should easily pay for itself. And every year after that, it is earning money. For someone who would use it everyday, it seems like a no brainier. With quality being the deciding factor....don't mind me burning a hole in my pocket.
Reply:Actually if your a handy guy, you can make one pretty ez and cheap....I bought a IR  on/off unit for under $25...Fab up a peddle with the sending unit and ya got it......OR how about the CLAP ON - CHAP OFF thing ya see on TV....COOOOL  I can see it now.....CLAP on and the mig comes to life....
