Hi everyone i was just kinda wondering if someone has ever welded a chrome plated aluminum rim. It looks asif it was a spun what i was planing on doing was cutting the face off and then taking the actual drum piece and making it into a back rest. Then i had a idea about putting it in the oven and laying some lexan over it and backing it so it droops over the seat area. Any ideas is greatly appreciated. Thx for your time Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkUsing Tapatalk
Reply:Not quite sure what you want do do with it? Can you explain it better?
Reply:I was thinking about cutting the face off so i would then have just the top piece and a drum piece. Then i would cut aprox 1/3 of the drum and use that piece for a back rest And weld it on the outside lip of the bead. Then get a piece of plate and drill the bolt holes pattern into it and bolt this on like a hub kinda. So that would be the seat part and then i was thinking of mounting it to one of those gas wheely stools i have a old one that needs a new cushion so it would be sacrificed. I also had the idea of heat forming some clear lexan on the seat were your butt would be with a oven kinda like as if you were to form a aircraft windshield. Reply:I kinda see what you are getting at! How do you plan on cutting it?

Reply:Back in the day they had a wheel called a Keystone Classic ( classic jusckin funk). A hit like that would have busted the center out and flipped your car. Those are good wheels you have( 3 of them anyhoo Bubble gumTooth pixDuct tapeBlack glueGBMF hammerScrew gun --bad battery (see above)
Reply:Actually i will have a pair it was a rumble strip on a bridge and it hit the whole right side luckily the rear one still held air. And yeah if they were really cheesy i think i would have been swimming with the fishes and by that i mean the dead ones.lol Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkUsing Tapatalk
Reply:I'm wielding aluminum rims myself, any questions please !! iPad TapatalkUsing Tapatalk
Reply:That looks to be a two piece rim, notice the allen head bolts? You could unbolt it to separate, no need to cut. I believe that is polished aluminum, not chrome plated. Have you done anything with this yet?
Reply:I havent done anything yet just trying to hone my aluminum welding skills but it is a look a like 2 piece and not actually one. That would have been awesome Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkUsing Tapatalk
Reply:With what I have to cut with, I would use a sawzall to cut the rim in two. If you don't have one, this would be a good excuse to get one, cheaper than a plasma torch. |
