Hi everyone,Last Friday I picked up a good deal on a really nice used Lincoln SP-170T MIG welder.  I also got a regulator, full Argon and Full Argon /CO2 bottles, liners for aluminum and steel wire, a homemade cart that I will probably scrap in favor of my own design and a few extra consumables.  I was just wondering where the best deals for aluminum wire are.  I have yet to go to TS or look online.  The Welding supply places are pretty high around here unless you are a high volume customer.  I would prefer to buy the aluminum wire on the larger 8" spools as opposed to the smaller spools.  This is my first MIG machine.  Up until now I have done everything with stick.  I have used larger MIG machines on the job before I retired but I have never used one this small.  I just wanted it for light sheet metal, aluminum and maybe some stainless.  Now all I need to do is find a good deal on a used small TIG rig and a plasma cutter that will run on sigle phase 240 VAC power.Dave B.E-MAIL:  [email protected] PAGES:  www.wfmservice.comwww.rides4rides.comwww.pvpmedia.com/53f100.htmDad always said, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."I say, We can make it better.
Reply:Congratulations. I would check all the usual online places. Hit Google and type in aluminum mig wire.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Not trying to discourage you, but I tried everything under the sun to get the small migs to push aluminum wire and i never got it to perform satisfactory.  I even had a short mig lead made to see if it would help, and still didn't Do to well.  Just wanted to let you know what i dealt with before you spent alot of money on something you might not be happy with.  Those machines are good machines but better used on steel.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:Originally Posted by David RYa can't push a rope.   If you try, at least try with 5356 the biggest diameter your welder will take.  AND a Teflon liner made for aluminum.David
