Ever been turning something in a lathe and have little "Horse Shoe" type chips that are extremely hot spray out halfway around the shop? You know those ones that hit you in the face...nose....get down your shirt and cause much discomfort?Rather than using cardboard or anything to keep those chips at bay I fabbed up a little guard that goes on a Aloris tool holder and stays put..Even guides the chips to the base of the machine..I have some Stainless shafts that are 75" long and need to go from 5.800 to 5.500 +.000 -.002...Around 300 RPM with a heavy rough cut and the chips fly everywhere..Not any more. All you need is some aluminum plate and a welder and a saw..(2 Pieces)..Problem Solved!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:that's using the ole noodle 350P 30A spool gun cut master 51 syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off
Reply:I like it, but I would suggest for the 2.0 version to maybe make the top out of plexi or possibly a heavy screen, so you still have good visibility of the cutting.
Reply:I like it Does it like swing out of the way when you dont need it?Problem I run into on the lathe is the coolant when I get close to the chuck. I always forget and end up with a shower

Reply:That long of a cut with no coolant? You could put a tab off the back and have it mount on the last set screw. Then it could swing out of the way.My name's not Jim....
Reply:That will do the trick. i do like it. The Ol man I learned under would tell me dont worry boy you will eventually have enough scar tissue on your arms you wont mind them no more. Cant say I have every gotten over them my self. But it reminded me if the worst chip tattoo I ever got had. One flew up my right nostril burned right on in. Had to inhale my rout 44 dr pepper to stop the burning. Was rather rough pulling it out with a pair of needle nose pliers. You might want to check in to iscar ss grades we have had good luck with them and the chips are dont roll up. |
