Hey guys quick question... I have some outdoor welding to do and was thinking about getting a stick welder. There are a few used ones around, the first one looks like a Home Depot buy, they go for like $290. He is aking $250, I was thinking about offering $175. The other one is an older AC225, he also wants $250. I have attached pics of both, did they make them better years ago or is the newer one better. What one would you buy and how much would you pay? I would really like the AC?DC model but its not in the budget. Thanks for the help, I have some updates on a few projects. I'll post up later tonight. Grant Attached Images
Reply:I've seen the ac-225 for around 150-200 many times. Sometimes less. I wouldn't go above 175.
Reply:Its worth what its worth to you... I bought my AC225 for $100, used the crap out of it, and ended up selling it to a friend for $100 like a week ago. Had I not sold it to him, I would have sold it for $150 or so. Ive never seen a unit like the older one, its weird looking... Most old ones look like the new ones, with a different color faceplate, and the mandatory dings and dents.[Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. Reply:From what Ive been told by a certified Lincoln Repair tech.....those older ones are the BOMB. The difference is the old ones are 100% copper....new ones use whatever does the job....kinda. If I were you....buy the older model.Just an opinion.JD Attached Images
Reply:Darth that thing looks sweet all painted up. Well the guy still wanst his $250. BUt I did find a AC/DC for $225. Its about an hour away and across the border. I live in Canada and the welder is just outsude Detroit. I am going to see it on Monday, any advice on what to look for? As always thanks for the help. Grant

Reply:$250 is a good price on that AC/DC unit. Near me I see the AC only ones from $75 to $150 on CL all the time depending on model and condition. I wouldn't wait to long to decide on that AC/DC one. I doubt it will hang around long..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Ya thats what I tried to tell the guy NM. Here in Canada they go for about 350 but the canadian and US dollar are almost at par and I can get in Detroit in about an hours drive. I am going to try and look at the AC/DC model sometime this weekend. Any hints on what to look for? Going to try and grab some rods to bring in case "he doesn't have any". Grant
Reply:Not much to look for with those machines. If they adjust and weld, they are good to go. Those machines are tanks and just keep on going even when abused beyond belief. It wouldn't surprise me if your grand kids could still use that machine in years to come..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear.
