I am shopping for a new dry cut saw and like both the evolution rage 2 and 4. I really dont need the size of the rage 2 and the rage 4 is half the cost. just curious if anyone has seen the rage 4, im not worried about the cut capacity, im more concerned about getting one with a decent clamp vise. any opinions
Reply:The Evo saws are not well made. When I was looking for a dry cut saw, I considered the Evo brand until I looked at them closely in the store. Poor quality control which resulted in a whole batch that the fence would not align at 90˚. The cuts were all at 87˚. They were sent to the retailers in that condition. I saw one fall apart during use and the linkage fell into the blade and carbide teeth went flying everywhere. That saw was completely ruined. I bought the Makita on Amazon.com. Great reviews. Well made saw. Has a good steel cutting blade on it. Evo does not include the good steel blade, you have to spend another $100 for a blade; so factor that into the cost equation. The Makita has a much better fence, better blade, better pivot mechanism, and better guard.ALmost forgot, the Makita has a much better clamping system with a quick adjust feature so you don't have to crank it 140 times to go from 1" to 5" or larger stock.
Reply:I was looking into getting a dry cut saw back at x-mas time. Started looking at Evo. online and in stores. I even called the company. Talked to a very nice guy,but he did not know jack about the saws.It seems like they change the line up. some of the saws they don't make any more or change the name/# or up graded. I have heard a lot of good things about them and not many bad. Here's a thread about dry cuts if your interested http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=47498DayePound to fit, paint to match |
