What is the best cover pass method for 4-8 inch sched 40 with 7018 3/32, stringers or a weave? I have to take a 6G test next week and want optimal results. Thanks. If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is!
Reply:Do you get to practice? That should help you to figure out your best method. I'd probably have a multi-pass cover with a slight weave. I'm talking just slight enough to pull off being able to get past the "vertical" part.RichLast edited by steelsurgeon; 07-28-2015 at 05:11 AM.
Reply:I do a weave on sch 40 if the weld procedure allows for it (80 amps for a 2-6" and 90 amps on 8" +) but sch 80 I'll run stringers (between 90-100 amps )since the gap/bevel is wider then a sch 40 fit up... with 3/32 rodthat's just what works for me6g I'd do stringersLast edited by then3wguy; 07-29-2015 at 08:02 AM.
Reply:Id be doing stringers on a 6g unless youve been welding a few in 6g and have some practice |
