Lincoln Wire Feed Tap or Continuous

What is the difference between the tap version and the continuous?I know that the tap is a preselected voltage source and the continuous the voltage can be re-fined. But what would be the advantage or disadvantage.Thanks,
Reply:the advantage would be to set the machine to how you want to weld, rather than change the way you weld to suit the machine.
