Reply:As far as testing your HF transformer, it would be impossible if your TIG side isn't working. When the TIG is working and HF is on continuous, you can hear it and also the arc will start by just approaching the work piece. I think you need more help that we could give you here, though. Reply:Don't mean to hijack your thread here, but I have a chance to buy one of the Lincoln TIG 300. It's an older machine but in great shape. Seller wants $500.00 for it. The welder has been stored for a period of time and I can't test it. So thats why Im asking....

Reply:I have a 1996 Idealarc Tig 300/300 that is red with a black panel. I bought it used from the local used to be Holox, then became Linde, now is Airgas dealer who had it in thier rental fleet. The funny part is the company I worked for was the only one that ever rented it, so I knew how little it was used. Anyway, immediately after I got it home the high frequency went out on it. Knowing just enough about electronics to be dangerous I did some tests and decided the high frequency capacitor was out. I asked the guy that sold it to me to get me a new capacitor, but he insisted on houling it back in to thier repair facility. This thing weighs about 890lbs without a bottle, so that was a pain... Got it back three weeks later with a ticket saying they replaced the hi-freq capacitor, no charge but at least it had broken loose on one of the truck rides and banged up the case and bent the handle good. Sure would have been easier to give me the little capacitor!Anyway, I love this machine. I know it sounds crazy, but I'd pick it over the Synchrowaves I have access to any day. Seems like a much more stable arc, specially in AC, and has much better low amp characteristics.Jason
