Hi all. I pulled a dummy and bent the gate on my trailer. It still works, but is a pain. I initially thought about cutting it out and replacing it, but I don't have a strong enough welder to put it back. I drive an 800lb mower up it every day. So I might as well just heat it up, hook it to a come along and see what happens. My question is is portable MAPP gas hot enough to do that? I don't have an oxy/act torch set.

Reply:Forget the heat. Go ahead and hook a come along to the top of the gate and the front of the trailer. Get a little pull on it. Then using a big hammer or piece of metal bridge the concave side of the bend and hit the convex side with a slightly smaller hammer. A 24-36 oz ball peen would work but something bigger would be nicer. The backup needs to be heavier than the hammer you're hitting it with. A 8-10lb sledge and a 3lb shop hammer would be my choice for this job. Reply:A sledgehammer is what I'd do. Course I love using the sledge hammer to bash things. It's just way too fun. I love to take a big ole sledge and beat on old junk cars. Takes a lot of stress away. xdChad
