sa-200 wide open

my Sa 200 is running way too many rpm's. My neighbor has a red face and I walked over and used it it just by sound i would say mine is at least 1000 rpms to fast. I was just wondering if anyone new how to hook a tac up to a magneato and then how do i adjust it down is it in the gov. or in the box that Idle's it up. any advice would be appreciated
Reply:could be the gov., also could be the carb. when starting watch the rod that attaches to the carb. you might have to adjust that rod the rod could be holding the throdle out to much. look at the carb. how it setting befor you start the machine then watch when you start it. move that bar to try to idle back the machine back down. if that rod won't move could be the idler. where are you located?Last edited by tompit9; 07-19-2007 at 02:40 AM.
Reply:I am in upstate SC. It idles down and kicks up when I strike an arc it just kicks way on up is there and adjustment on the gov I was about halfway thinking the gov might just kick up the timing advane on the motor dose it actually govern the motor.
Reply:there is a bolt on the gov. that you could increase or decrease. might give that a try.
Reply:You can check voltage with a d/c voltmeter on the front plug. If its is out of whack, turn the machine off. If you let one run "wild", you can get the OCV way to high and fry the generator.
Reply:You should have about 120 at the outlet.  You can adjust your governor linkage or spring to get exactly 120 volts.  Your RPM will be really close.  If AC, just set for 60 cycles.David.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:David R is correct. If your machine is an old one, they are d/c output only.
