Hello,I am in the market for a new plasma cutter and have settled on the thermal dynamics cutmaster 82. Found out they have a nice trade program and am looking for a junk plasma cutter to trade in. Would anyone have a plasma that they could part with that is not working? Please send a PM.Thanks,Nick
Reply:Besure and check around on pricing. I too was told abot this "offer" by a LWS, they offered $600-700 for my TD Pakmaster machine towards a trade-in. I found they were using the retail price of the new plasma, when quoting the price. My normal everyday LWS, quoted me a price for the very same machine, that was considerably less than the first LWS, WITHOUT my trade-in. When I say considerably, it was over $200 difference.Hillbilly
Reply:Shop around a bit for a Hypertherm Powermax1000......faster cuts, higher duty cycle at maximum output power, and best of all....longer consumable life. There are some great deals on the Powermax1000 at most welding suppliers right now, as they are moving their inventory to make way for the new Powermax65. I'm pretty sure you can get a 1000 for les money than an 82.....even without a trade.Jim
Reply:Dollar for dollar the Hypertherm Plasma cutters are probably the best in the world. Consumable cost versus life is better than any body else and are readily available just about anywhere. I have a PM 1000 G3 with a machine torch on a 4x4 Torchmate table and it is one bad agent. I consistently cut 5/8ths and thinner all the way down to 14 Ga. I can cut even thinner, but I do not have an automatic height control on my machine so I have to really watch the material under 14 Ga. I looked at all manner of cutters before I bought mine and the support I have gotten from Hyperterm on the one or two occasions I was messed up, is definately world class. They are employee owned and have stated that they will not lay off any workers during this recession. No better machine, No better people, cant beat em. Just my .02, bur I have burned probably 3 miles of cut and never had a failure. All the not affiliate and disclaimers apply. I am just a very very happy customer. BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys? Trade?
Reply:So I purchased my cutmaster 82 today. Found an old 875i ESAB that was junk and got $500 for the machine. With taxes and all I paid 1769.98. The machine cuts great and I purchased the circle cutter kit as well. This will come in handy when building my grills. Thanks for the advice everyone, but I could not pass up a 4 year warranty bumper to bumper. Plus Hypertherm is way overpriced for the same cut quality. Consumables are in the same price range as hypertherm and my local dealer came out and set it up and let me use if for a few days before purchasing. That in itself is a huge service advantage.
