anyone else find that their blades suck?I put a new on in to cut a 4"x4"x1/4" HSS to length. It just managed it, but the last side was very slow.with other blades id loose count of how many tubes id cut with one blade.just ordered some starrettG
Reply:I disagree I have had a Milwaukee blade last thru a few hundred 2x angle iron cuts.. It's all about speed and angle. Sound like a operator error to me..Equipment:06 F-450Classic IIInvertec V205-T AC/DCLN-25 PROPro-Cut 80Milwaukee Power Tools
Reply:is this a shop saw or porta-band?in my experience i generally shoot for the 10-14 TPI when buying any band saw blades....i find that the more TPI the less # of cuts i get out of a blade and unless you are going for fine finish cuts or in soft materials say like aluminum it just smokes the blade wayyy to fast....and if you were using a blade w/ less teeth then the machine was running too fast....or....operator error (winding the saw up then getting into the cut)....or....a goofy angle on the cut to begin with that causes jumping or additional stress to keep the saw into the cut.also check to make sure that all your blade guide wheels are free spinning! those little bearings seize up sometimes and dont allow for proper cooling on the length of the blade causing blade fatigue and over heating.  quality....not quantity....that's what i have been trying to tech my workers for well over 20 years
Reply:....teach....lolwas in quantity mode apparently
Reply:HSS high speed steel?  Don't think starret will get through it better.

Reply:I think in shapes HSS is high strength steel. Of course cutting on a flat always seems slow but it really isn't. You just don't see that forward (downward) progression is all. Cutting something 1/4" wide by 2" tall you see progression where cutting something 2" wide by 1/4" tall you don't. I thing the actual cut time is the same tho. The milwaukee blades I use seem to be a little hard in my simple opinion. They tend to develope cracks between the flutes and break long before they get very dull. Still short life span either way but my preference. I'd rather have a blade crack and break than get dull on one side and cut crooked."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt

Reply:I'd be curious exactly what HSS you are cutting. Sounds strange. Anyway, get yourself some Lenox blades and keep 'em in a coolant bath. Flood coolant will make your blades last infinately longer. My Doall rarely needs a new blade and I cut A LOT of steel, etc,Granthttp://jackalopefab.com/MM210Synchrowave 200DXMiller XMT350 w/60series feederMiller Bobcat 250 with SGA 100 and spoolgunHTP PlasmaFull Machine shop with everything

Reply:Been a big fan of the dewalt heavy duty blades.  The extra .05" thickness makes a huge difference in the straightness of my cuts, as well they seem to last longer than the milwaukees.I can't imagine having a portaband that didn't have a speed adjustment now that I have my dewalt portaband.
