This is my favorite project so far.Was out spreading poop this weekend and the rain cap that covers the exhaust on my tractor went flying.  Metal fatigue.  Years of clapping away under the constant-miss-fire that I call an idle finally took it's toll.got off the tractor and put it in the loader bucket.next day i took a little carb cleaner to an area no bigger than absolutely necessary such that i could tack it back together.best project EVER.didn't grind it, didn't square it up, didn't clean a good ground spot ... just zapped it with a little 3/32" 6011 set to "maximum stun" and burned about an inch of rod.better than new!didn't even bother to chip the slag off.guaranteed not to ever rust either.I burn enough oil to fog for mosquito's best part is, i saved $3.confirming that, without a doubt, my time is worth nothing.and yes,  i put a cherry bomb on my tractor.that's just how i roll.

Reply:The repair looks great but you may want to avoid using the "carb cleaner". You can read up on it on this site. There is a Sticky in the General Welding Questions forum on the topic of carb cleaner. Its quite toxic when any residue is exposed to welding.Last edited by RWH; 05-07-2014 at 12:59 AM.Reason: left out reference to sticky
Reply:I've never seen one break there. I have replaced quite a few with pivot hole worn so badly that capdoesn't cover opening. Now I've seen a turbo muffler and a cherry bomb on tractors .Last edited by jpump5; 05-07-2014 at 06:30 AM.Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite
Reply:Did you unhook the batterie(s)?if not, that's some serious risk you took Another example of using $100(?) equipment to save $3

Reply:Glad to hear you are OK. Lacquer thinner cuts grease and oil pretty well and leaves no residue. I'm not sure how well it cuts carbon.

Reply:Spreadin poop with the no cab tractor while you have a cab tractor in the shed? That is hard core right there!

Reply:806's were one of the best tractors ever to come from IH. When your range shifter wears out completely upgrading to the 56 series cover/shifter makes it a lot better loader tractorSent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
