Reply:I haven't used these, but I have figured out a much cheaper equivalent for when I'm in a tight spot. I put my Arcone 240 drop in auto dark lens in a pair of 2x4 gas welding goggles. Cover your face with a ski mask or bandana. The bonus to this is that you can use the lens in a regular hood too. I think I paid $55 for mine and the goggles came free with a torch setup.
Reply:Or skip the mask/bandana and use miltary sunscreen.......honest, I heard someone say that one day.They look like they would be a PITA to put on.
Reply:I have these at work for getting into tight spaces. The company I work for purchased these for me. They work ok if you don't need to wear glasses to see and have a good tolerance for heat as you get pretty warm and sometimes fog up.

Reply:According to Fedex, mine (Miller Weld-Mask) should be here tomorrow.  Ordered it from Cyberweld.  I've been having a hard time with glare, even after making a bib for my helmet and draping the back of it with heavy denim.  So I'm looking forward to getting a really good look at what I'm doing.

Reply:Got'em.  Just tried them for the first time, and I have to say wow.  I can finally see what I'm doing.  I have a Miller auto-darkening helmet, which is fine, but I'm always getting so much glare that it's hard to focus on the weld.  The Miller Weld-Mask shuts out the outside light.  For a newcomer like me, that's tremendous.  Hot? yeah, but not really any worse than a regular helmet with heavy fabric attached to the front and back to try to block out the glare.  That makes kind of a mini-tent that also collects heat and smoke.  Here's a pic of some practice beads that I just did:Now, you're saying to yourself, OK, that looks pretty ordinary, but for me it's a great leap.  That's 1/8 6013 at about 130-135 amps dcep, several beads thick.  I've had a hard time running beads straight, and now I can see where I'm going.  I'm sort of a beginning hobbyist, although I have made the last 4 backflow cages for backflow devices that I've installed (I'm a plumber).

Reply:I have to thank Killdozer, I got my Weldcap yesterday and couldn't be happier with it.   The cap is comfortable to wear and the sight picture is great.   In the light setting you can easily do bench work even in dim areas.     This is one of if not the most comfortable hoods I have worn.    It was in the mid 90's when I used it, a bit warmer than a regular hood but not uncomfortable like the Miller shroud would be.Steve from SoCal now in HutchMiller Dynasty 300DX Coolmate3 Speedway TorchMiller XMT 450 MPa plus with D-74 MPa Plus Miller Bobcat 225 NTHypertherm Powermax 45And a whole bunch of machines
