I picked up a muscle mig 140SL for a song and a dance (the guy needed money bad and his loss and my gain) and used twice. I see you can add a Tig or Aluminum wire feed spool gun and looked up what Snap On wants for their system, and my question is. Can Tig torch or Aluminum wire feed spool gun from another manufacturer be adapted or just plug and play?Last edited by bucky; 04-01-2014 at 01:17 AM.

Reply:Yes they can. You will pay dearly for a spool gun for that machine from snap on or another place. That is a awesome welder though!Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:I gave $450 for it for home use and so far it's worked very well, and I couldn't touch a 140amp 110V machine for anything close to that unless you're looking at harbor freight crap. That's why I have such an aversion to paying over 1K for a spool system and almost $700 for a tig torch. I've been hitting Craigslist to try and find one no such luck yet.
Reply:For what it's worth a 140 amp class mig is pretty limited on alum even with a spoolgun. You'll max out a 180 amp class mig in both voltage and wire speed on 1/8" alum. Mig alum is pretty limited on thin material since it's a hot process, so that doesn't leave you much room with only 140 amps to work with. Honestly even a 180 amp mig is pretty limited on alum. 200 amps is about the lower limit I'd put on mig if you wanted to do alum. I wouldn't bother hunting for a spoolgun all that hard for that machine myself..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:http://www.800abcweld.com/store/?crn...=1&action=show  if you haven't  been there already.  100 % duty cycle at 140 amps.  Should do well for tigging steel, no foot pedal though.
Reply:$700 for a tig torch?Post up a pic of the connections and how it flips from CV to CC.Sure u could rig something up for ALOT less.
Reply:It should be made by systematics. Parts are expensive be jade of the snap on name. Those things were like 7k+ when they came out.140 amps and a spool gun, you would be good for up to 1/8" aluminum. You can even weld too hot and put holes in 1/8" aluminum if you don't move fast enough. These machines were very under rated. Even the snap on 140Mig was a little badass and would pop a 30 amp breaker. However IMO it's not worth $700+ for the spool gun when you can just mig aluminum.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer

Reply:You could buy a used 180 or 210 amp level migs with spool gun for 400 plus.  I just sold a hobart 210 w/ spool gun for 450.  Purchased it, used ,for 400 last year.Sent from my SPH-M830 using Tapatalk
Reply:It was $450 for everything you see there including a full owner tank and no freight, hell he even delivered it to my shop. It seems a lot of people on this forum are againts these welders, and most have probably never used one. even though I don't weld/fabricate for a living I'll burn something together at least daily and have used at least 60 to 80 different machines in 22 years of turning working on cranes, this little guy works pretty damn well for what it is. And to be honest I was a little leary about my purchase, but after using my first spool of wire on a pit bike project I would've paid more for it.   Originally Posted by BrooklynBravest????http://www.hobartweldshop.com/servle...welders/Detail

Reply:I does seem like a good deal. That duty cycle puts in a class by it self, it would make a nice scratch start tig welder for steel.    However, if you want a spool gun, then it would cheaper to go with another welder/spool gun and more power .
Reply:I don't think using this welder for anything more than household or very light industrial would be ideal and it should last a long time. But this morning at work I was welding up a cab door on a 130ton Grove RT crane and used are little Lincoln Power Mig 180 dual on 110 and wasn't impressed at all. But it all comes down to, they're still only a 110 machine and they're all limited.
Reply:I just ran across one of these in my local CL for $2200...just as a point of reference for you. Seems like too much money for a 140 amp machine, but for $450, I am not sure you did all that bad.Miller Multimatic 255
