Hello,This is the first time I've posted to this forum and I'm hoping to find a little help debugging my welder. I have a TIG 300/300 unit (code # 6187-CH) that I've been setting up and it's up and running now. I found a brand new K-746 Amptrol for it on eBay, added a new Radnor WP-20 torch, and a used Bernard 3500SS cooler. When I strike an arc, however, I have no current control using the foot pedal. Changing the Remote Current Control switch between on and off has no effect. I going to pull the lid off it later today to start checking connections. Can anyone suggest other things to look for while I'm in there inspecting it? The machine, although big and ugly, appears to be in tact and I've heard a lot of great things about them. I'd like to get it working completely.  Thanks in advance,Cliff Wright
Reply:So you have no control whether you are in panel or remote? Are you dead or blowing thru material wide open?
Reply:KSellon,I'm not blowing through material. I can establish an arc with or without HF. I haven't thoroughly tested the current control from the panel yet. I'll do that this evening and post the results. Thanks.Cliff
Reply:OK, apparently I do have control at the panel. I set the Remote Current Control switch to OFF and turned the Current Control knob all the way up and the welded responded... I got lots of heat. With the Remote Current Control switch turned on, the arc seems like it responds a very small amount to pedal input. But it's so slight it's hard to tell. But the machine does recognize the Remote Current Control switch being turned on and off.Cliff
Reply:I am sure you checked this, but remember the foot control will only take you up to wherever the dial control is set, even in the remote position. If the dial is set to 0 or very low, the remote will just take you from minimum to minimum even if all is working properly. weldersales
Reply:Well, it looks like this old hog is working. It seems like to more I use it, the better it gets. I think my initial problems were a combination of unfamiliarity with the welder and that there is a layer of crud on every contact in the thing. A can of CRC contact cleaner and a little exercise seemed to help a lot. Thanks,Cliff Wright
Reply:Post a pic of that welder!  Do I remember correctly that the second 2 digits of the code are the year?  My tig 300/300 is a 95 or 96 if I remember right.  I love it!
