I have a chance to buy a weldenpower 8000. The unit does not weld proper, does not have enough amperage; at the stinger. Not sure if it gen's or not.has 50 foot leads. I would think it should go to a repair shop, I would like to know if it is worth putting much money into it. don't know if its a rotor, diod, or just what it is that causing the problem but don't want to throw away dollars either. I can get the unit for about three hundred bucks. the engine runs great and is a sixteen hp. Kohler does not smoke. any help as to to idea's is welcome. thanks. new member, Paul
Reply:I would find out what its going to cost to repair it first or you just bought a nice Kohler.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:You can't know for sure until it's properly checked out, there are so many things it could be. It could be as simple as a bad battery or bad weld cable connections, or it could be much worse. If you could tell us more details about the problem, that would certainly help.Cheers,Bob
Reply:Well guys I found out some more tonight on the unit, the generator works ok and it does weld but the weld that this man done was classic chicken piles and gobs , how ever I don't know where he keeps his rods or what he was using or how he had the machine set up, He stated it was as hot as he could make it but I have not tried to weld with it,, So we are still discussing the price. Perhaps I can weld with it in the next day or so and then I will get back to all of you with a report. thanks to allone good deed is worth a thousand good intentions

Reply:Hey gang.UPDATE Got the welder home. Generator works fine, motor(after carb. cleaning) runs great, no smoke. Has seventy five foot leads. I cleaned connections and it seems to weld ok. I used 1/16 and then went to 1/4 and tried AC, AC+ and DC- all seems to be ok although on straight AC it has to be cranked up some to get a good bead. Now I find it does not have a gas tank in it, it must have leaked and was removed, I just got a temporary on top to check it out.... Where would I get a new or used tank.. any help would be a real life saver. I could fabricate one out of stainless and have all to do so. and would probably be the best but a used one would save time for other things. Thanks. rockyone good deed is worth a thousand good intentions |
