So I was going to mount my abrasive chop saw on a mount the goes into the receivers on my welding table. But I quickly realized that i hate having to sweep off the grinding dust to make sure the project i'm working on is sitting flat on the table instead on a pile of dust. So I did a search on this site and others for a chop saw stand but I did'nt find anything that would fit my needs so i decided to make one off the top of my head. My only criteria are the cart has to be compact in size, Telescopic arms, and the stand to self contain the grinding dust. This is the first real project that i built on my fab table that i built a couple months ago, which was the best thing i've ever built. Its so nice to be able to clamp any where on a perfectly flat table and automatically get a perfect 90 degree angle. Reply:So for collecting the grinding dust i decided to make a inverted pyramid that will have a hinged door on the bottom. I'm not great with math so i went on google and found a website that will give you all the angles you need from the base length, height. I made a cardboard pyramid to make sure it would fit perfectly which it did and on first try to boot. Reply:Nice, I like the debris cone.
Reply:nice, provision a hose port in the bottom so you can shop-vac it while in use, or shop-vac it later, etc.
Reply:in the 3rd pic left side; you're losing strength by not wrapping your weld around the corner of the vert. tube otherwise looks good.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:Chop Saw Pipe NotcherHaving 3 acres that need a corral fence and 4 stables, I knew I needed something fast accurate and economical to cut drill pipe sch 40.  Not finding what I wanted, I decided to build my own.Started  off by tearing apart a Harbor Fright Chop Saw.The chop saw base was welded to the platform so I just used a sawz-all to cut them.  Next was a base plate with two holes for mounting. The chow saw was required to tilt to the correct angle.  A tilt table was purchased on Ebay and amounting plate fabricated. To finish the project, I made a platform on which to mount the saw.  A piece of 2 X 2 angle was used to to create the "V" in the center line of the blade head.  To cut a notch on 2" ID pipe, 28* seemed to work best.  I move the pipe to the outside edge of the of the tub and cut to the center line of the tube.  For the second cut, turn the pipe 180* and cut to the center.Paul
Reply:This is the finished saw.  I was used to cut the 3-1/2" tube to make axles using Dana 44 spindlesThe finished weld cut is a very acceptable fit for welding top rail to a post.  For intermediate rails, they can be measured to an exact fit becuse of the starting points at the saw.  Still need to make an index jig to index the first cut so that i sits at 180* for the second notch. Reply:Very nice engineering and execution
Reply:Here are a few pics of notches in 2-3/8" pipeThis jewel is fast and no real setup required, start the cut at the center outer edge of the pipe, set the chop saw stop for pipe center, make the first cut, turn the pipe and make the second cut. Notch piece just falls out.As the blade wears, just and reset the stop to end at the center of the pipe.Very pleased with the results.Paul
Reply:So back to my stand build my weekend was spent re shingling my uncles cottage roof so I wasn't able to make a whole lot head way. But I was able to transfer my card board templates on to 18 gauge sheet metal and get it welded up and fitted in to the cart. I also got the receivers welded on that are for the telescopic arms. Reply:3A fine build! Thanks for posting, that is very functional.
Reply:The only thing I got done this weekend was I made the handle for the cart. Attached ImagesHobart IronMan 230Hypertherm 45XP on a CNC table1.5HP 9x42 MillUNIBOR EQ35N Mag Drill
Reply:You notch in a very different way than I do. On my notches, neither cut has to be stopped before it's through the tube (or pipe in your case). My cuts intersect at the part that sticks out, rather than the part that goes in. I think the method I've used gets smaller root gaps than you show there too, yours look larger than I'm used to - but I could be wrong. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/shop-...-pictures.html has a couple pictures of the way I do it. I just as often use an angle grinder rather than a chopsaw if I'm not doing 90 degree angles.Lincoln 175HD
