I'm just starting to learn to tig weld I have my welder on the way should be here monday. I have filler rods and some scrap to run beads on. All I need now is a argon cylinder so I went to airgas since I don't have a cylinder they said I can buy one or lease one they were selling me a 125 for over 300 dollars maybe like 340 I can remember with gas included is that to much?
Reply:Used is a better choice. Get a 150 cf as those are always considered customer owned. Always get a blank neckring, Never one with welding supply name stamped on it. Also that's way too expensive. Look on craigslist and such for a used one. Same rule as above applies. Blank neck ring. Even if it's it of hydro test date is only about $20 for the recert. Most LWS will just swap out another customer owned tank and add the re test to the gas price.Should be able to find one in the $5-150 rangeTiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma. Reply:I live in North Carolina. Im talking to someone on Craigslist about a 4ft tank it's for oxygen I believe I'm not sure if I'll if airgas in sanford would have a tank to match it what information should I ask for to be sure I can use it and swap it for a full 4ft tank of argon? He's selling it for 150
Reply:Oxygen is a different valve usually. Check if your LWS will swap for a inner gas tank before you buyTiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma. Reply:First don't shop at airgas and just buy your own tank. Get the 150 size tank then you will want to eventually buy a 336 tank, gas is much cheaper with the biggest tank. I pay 65$ to exchange a 336. If you have a cool lws they will let you upgrade tanks and just pay the difference. Also my local airgas wants 9$ a pound for 70s2 and the mom and pop store I go to sells it for 2.50$ lol
Reply:Would any body be able to recommend a mom and pop show in nc I stay in pittsboro nc
Reply:Try to google search it also. At my lws 125 and 150 cfh bottles cost the same to exchange
Reply:Call each one and ask for prices
Reply:Definitely find a used tank on CL. In fact, find 2 used tanks on CL (you always run out in the middle of a project on Sunday morning). The brand new tank you buy from Airgas will be exchanged on your first refill and you will cry about losing a beautiful new tank for an old tank. They don't care what your tank looks like, as long as it is not expired. If it is expired, you'll pay a test fee when you get your first exchange.KevKevin / Machine_Punk from The Aerodrome Studio - Lincoln PowerMIG 210 MP - Meco N Midget w/custom welding station - Vintage Victor 100Current Projects: The Aerodrome Studio
Reply:What about leasing from argon?
Reply:Just don't buy a private tank on CL that's stolen. It's nothing but scrap metal or a project. Why would you wanna lease a tank? Is that a better deal?
Reply:I have no idea I read some people say it's good. This will be my first cylinder
