Took some close up photos of welding beads produced by 3 different guys, one is a professional welder with years of experience that went to school for welding, second is self taught and the 3rd guy never welded before.Could you tell by welding beads which is a better weld and who laid it or is it just a crap shoot ?  I don't think any of them are professionals but that is JMO . All were done in my shop with my 211 set to lazy (Autoset), all welders used the same harbor freight helmet, thick stick welding gloves and fancy welding sleeves .What do you guys think?  1/8 materialAttachment 1199091Attachment 1199101Attachment 1199111Last edited by NinjaRay; 08-30-2015 at 01:34 AM.

Reply:Self taught is the best. The others must have been welding blindfolded.
Reply:Was the welder set up, and handed to each of the 3?  Or was each welder responsible for his/her machine settings?  Were there criteria that had to be met, like square or distortion?  I'm no pro,  but "best welder/weld" is more than the ability to hold a somewhat reasonably steady hand for what amounts to little more than large tack welds. Cut and etch them if that's your metric.

Reply:The pics were posted to make you guess but since I didn't do a good job of explaining that part I think everyone got confused, next time I will put guess who made these welds and options

I was ready to kick them the hell out but the buyer decided he wanted it and took it.
