First time posting but been reading for a while. Been welding for a little while now just at home in the driveway. My brother is a welder by trade and has been helping me out. I had a utility trailer I had bought that was 5x12. It was a boat trailer. Worked good but I could not fit two atvs on it comfortably. So I went and bought the steel and went to town. Pulled the deck and sanded down the c channel frame. It had c channel cross members in it already so it is plenty strong. I put 2x2x1/4 7 ft long across the top of the frame. Then made the 2x2x1/4 angle 80" x 144". The 2x2 stick out 2" on each side for some forged eye bolts for tie downs. Put the sides on today. Still need to water proof the 2x deck and sides. A lot of work but I did enjoy it ! As soon as I can figure how to post pics I will put them up.

Reply:Why so many joins in the angle ? Looking across the back it appears to have 2 joins and it is all warped up. Reply:The joint are there because the angle I had given to me was only 6ft. I had to weld them together. When I widened the trailer I cut it in half and added 20" to the center to get 80". I'm in upstate NY. About half an hour north of lake George.
