Belt Disc Sander,,,, now what?

Hey everyone.  Just bought a 1 hp Dayton belt and disc sander with a stand for cheap at a public auction.Bought it as i can imagine it will be great to have to clean up cuts, smooth some welds and maybe notch some light wall tubing.  But I was wondering what you use yours for the most, or what else should I look to do with it.  As you can tell, Im a novice.  However, I want to get the most out of my tools so any suggestions / advice would be welcome.
Reply:Hey Matt, i have one just like yours that i bought new about 3 yrs. ago and i use the HELL out of it , it is one of the handiest tools i own . i  have a 40 grit disk on it and a 80 grit belt i use the disc for heavy removal or on jagged ruff stuff or to put rounded edges on things then i clean it up with the finer grit on the belt . the good thing about sanders you can use them on  any material steel ,aluminum ,wood , plastics,etc. you can't do that with a pedestal grinder,  i have one of those that  i rarely use  . the only drawback to this unit if it is just like mine a  9 in. disc and 6x48 belt ,the disc size seemed  to be kind of an oddball size but i found some from a place called supergrit abrasives  go to www.supergrit.com and order you 2 or 3 of each one get the psa zirconia cloth 40 grit disc and the zirconium 6x48 belt these are the good quality ones and they are pretty reasonable $3.25 for the disks and $7.50 for the belts they will last quite a while [these are 2009 prices]you won't be sorry you got that thing they are very very handy for allot of things if i can help you with anything let me know .good luck Chris !
Reply:De-burring edges, rounding corners, sharpening tunsten...just about anything you can think of....I use ours all the time.
