Reply:I've never used one but I know what you're talking about. What all pieces do you have. The full setup had a lot of different pieces. Any pics?Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm

Reply:I'm not sure if I found the one you're looking at but one came up on the Pittburgh craigslist along with a Bridgeport head, saw sharpener, and gear puller. If that's the one then it's just the head itself. Still probably worth the $350. However if you've just got a small Southbend lathe then I don't think you could really use it. It's pretty large and really needs a pretty good sized lathe to mount it.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm
Reply:not the same, the one im seeing is reasonable scale to ride my little ten inch sb..
Reply:Ok. I'd still question whether the carriage on a 10" would be heavy enough for much milling but I guess if you took small cuts it would be ok.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm
Reply:On modern cnc machines they call this live tooling For the money it might be a handy device. Won't realistically replace a good mill. Could be handy for machining the ends of shafts, especially with the indexer included. I could think of a few times something like this would be handy.Versamil is still around so you could likely talk to them http://www.versamil.com/Irish... here's the photo and description:model c master lathe converter this goes on tool post to make lathe capable of milling machine work good shape ...includes high speed head and headstock divider/indexer. Reply:$350 is dirt cheap if it's all there. I've used them for portable machining, keyseats, way milling & lots of boring.Matt
Reply:Ok that picture shows a lot more to it. Yes that setup is worth the money. If I was closer and had the money I'd grab it. I have used a indexer from one of those sets and it was handy sometimes.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm

Reply:A Versamill is a milling, drilling, grinding and slotting attachment. I had one in my machine shop kit back in 1974 in the Army. I used it on a 11" Rockwell lathe and it worked great. Not a heavy duty piece of equipment but versatile. Used for OD and ID grinding, indexing, milling flats, tapers, key ways and drilling holes while the part is still in the lathe.Russell |
