On some of the jobs I do it seems like my machine works better if I turn the high speed adjustment up a little bit. I'm thinking that I must be raising the open circuit voltage up a bit.Right now I have it set at the factory spec of 1500RPM, Didn't the new machines run a little faster? The only problem I have setting it up faster is the 120V DC tools ends up going over voltage.I was going to do some kind of 2 speed modification to the govener. Not sure if I want to use a vacuum actuated device, hydraulic cylinder operated off of engine oil pressure. or just hooking up a vernier throttle cable. By the way, the other day I hooked up a vacuum valve in the idler line to disable the idler. I got tired of fighting that cotter pin in the linkage I used to use.The Valve is a Clippard MTV-3. Hose barbs are 10-32 X 1/8" and I used a foot of 1/8" rubber automotive vacuum hose. Ran me $14 and took 15 minutes to make the mod.Just be sure you get a 3 way valve. I asked for a 3 way, the valve they gave me had 3 ports but I couldn't blow through one of the ports. turns out they use the same casing for the 2 way and the 3 way. I had to run back and get the right one.Last edited by joethemechanic; 03-01-2008 at 11:28 AM.Joewww.CummingsHauling.com
Reply:Sounds wayyyy too complicated, why don't you simply use a pto type pull and lock cable, and a RPM gage.
Reply:where did you get the switch for the idler i would like to do thatComplete Fabrication Shop specializing in pipe fabrication. Also offering heavy steel fabrication and sheet metal work.
Reply:I got mine at AirLine Hydraulics http://www.airlinehyd.com . They sell hydraulic/pneumatic/electrical controls and actuators. and all kinds of neat stuff. The Valve I bought was made by Clippard http://www.clippard.com It is a model MTV-3. I'm sure if you look on their website they have a distributer near you.As far as the locking throttle cable goes, I was going to use the "vernier cable" because you can turn it to get a fine adjustment. I was thinking something like this. The only reason I thought about using vacuum or hydraulic is that I could set it up with a remote if I wanted, but to tell you the truth I'll probably do it with the vernier cable (because I can get one out of a junk truck for free, and I am cheap). As far as the tachometer goes, I haven't seen one that will work with my magneto, unless I want to spend "big big bucks". I was thinking of just getting  panel mounted DC voltmeter and using it for an indication of speed. While we are on the subject of SA-200s, does anyone know of a place to buy F163 parts cheap? I want to do rings/bearings/valves in mine soon just to freshen it up.Joewww.CummingsHauling.com
Reply:I did the Air vale trick on a SAM-400 years ago. All you need to do is put it in between the idler pot and the engine and put a filter in the second port to keep dirt out.Position one, auto idlePostion two, highi idle. Attached Images
