I just got an email from Harbor freight about a double cut saw. Although I'm not even remotely interested in the harbor freight tool, I am interested in the tool and if anyone on here has one or maybe has experience using one. I'd love to here more about it and what you guys think of it. Thanks
Reply:I've always said: those things are a not-very-good solution to a problem that no one was having.Super wide kerf.  Expensive blades.  I'm even a little leery about fingers being cut off by them.Angle grinders, reciprocating saws, circular saws and jig saws will get you out of anything on the duty sheet for that thing.  Seems like the inventor came up with it because it would look cool on an infomercial. That said, I'm not against any new tool, as a rule.  Why not have more options?  But this one is very low on my list.Last edited by Jack Olsen; 06-29-2011 at 12:54 AM.Jack OlsenMy garage website

Reply:I bought one for cutting expanded metal on the job site.  Works great

Reply:i bought one from sears when they first came on the market.it cut great, but the motor was junk and overheated easily.melted on of the brush holders inside.haven't tried the harbor freight unit, but it costs a whole lot less than i paid sears.
Reply:I have one of these saws, and I burned it up within 20 minutes of useTrying to cut some 1" aluminum round stock in an akward position. Blades separated just a bit and some Al jammed between them and the sucker let the blue smoke goUn jammed it and it still ran fine...so I wen to use it on the project I intended it for. Cutting corrugated sheet into strips. First cut was terrible. Second cut pulled the sheet between the blades and seized it good. Now it clicks every rotationTried to exchange it because I wasn't done yet. No one in Colorado has one, and customer service says they are backorder till September. So, I took it apart. Found the smoke and the clicking source - inferior brushes. I am confident that when I replace these, it will be strong running saw.One thing though...both times I jammed it, I was using it in a very, "ahem", unorthodox way, which probably contributed largely to the problem ( the saw doesn't have a fence, so I built a table for it so I could do a 35 degree miter on a corrugated panel)
Reply:A buddy got one once, I used it a bit. My thought was about the same as a few others. I already have at least 5 saws that can do the same job, why would I need another one.
