My step dad and mom live in Houston and he called me last weekend saying he needed a project done for an upcoming weekend in Galveston......We were on the phone for a couple hours while he described the project as he envisioned it..... while talking through it and sending some pictures through text message..... we refined the idea some as the day went on......I started building what I thought would work during the week and they came over yesterday to finish the project...... about 2 hours was the plan.....6 hours later....... everything was built and worked like a charm........PICS.....Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:I like it! I would love to be around when he forgets that it is back there and drives away dragging the propane bottle. GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.

Reply:Looks good. Wonder how a mini fridge mounted next to it would work?????????? Be close to the cold glass of tea. I hope they enjoy the grill. I like to follow your post.
Reply:By the way just kidding about the fridge. Keep up the good work.
Reply:SweetWhy not put a hanger at the bottom for the tank? How heavy is that thing to lift into the hitch.
Reply:Hi all......Yep.. Space and heat were the motivators behind the design........It's a three piece unit...... The "L" that pins into the receiver hitch..... The top that slides down on and pins into the top..... And the side table that slides into the top........Didn't think about hanging the bottle..... Would have been a good addition.......It was fun to build and only took 9 beers to complete........Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:9 beers is quick for something like that! Very nice work!GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:Nice, ok, now you can sit on the tailgate to eat . So you gotta make slide in elevated try tables to set your food on.

Reply:How about a little longer hose and make a mount for the gas bottle to stay in the bed of the truck? One less thing to move around. Just a thought.Mike
Reply:great idea BUT hate the grit on the beach build some wind breaks to protect that great meat or fish. You know after a 30 stones the grit some how goes away. Clifton
Reply:Always like these, but I am afraid of burning my bed liner and paint!
Reply:Did you at least get a grilled meal out of this project? It seems like it would require a dress rehearsal cook out on it before he left with it, to insure there were no modifications that needed to be done to it. Did he do a practice cook out on it for you and yours, before he went home with it? Seems like the least he could have done for your effort. Who footed the bill for the materials?

Reply:Excellent project. Grilling is serious business here in Texas.Sorry to still see all the burned trees in the background. Bastrop was hit hard by the wildfires and grilling was out of the question just a year ago when we had state wide burn bans. Certainly glad that has changed.
Reply:Fex, you know that I'm a huge fan of your work and that grill is A+, but I'm just curious why your dad just didn't want to use a simple portable grill instead? It probably would have been much cheaper to buy and can be easily stowed in the bed of a truck or off to the side, after a tailgate party etc.... With one that's fixed in the hitch receiver, you basically can't touch it and move it out of the way until it cools and that could take a long long time. The portable ones have wheels and such. Reply:He had purchased a propane stove from Costco a couple years ago and it cooks really great..... The place they are going has a wood bench outside and he didn't want to have listen to his brother badger him about cooking on a wood bench..... so he dreamed up this design.....The grill he has allows heat to escape mostly from the top.... and this little design breaks down totally flat and takes up nearly no space at all.........Thanks for the A+ rating!.....It was a blast to make......Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:Awesome job as usual. Why no gusset in the 90* inside corner? Two spaced prongs to tang the tank on would make a nice addition and save a few toes.... |
