Miller 210 with a broken fan...is it safe to use?

There is a guy selling a 210 but claims it works fine without the fan.....the fan is missing (what ever that means).  I am sure the fan plays a vital role in keeping the electronics cool inside the machine.  My question is, would it be worth taking a chance for 600 bucks to buy it and replace the fan?Has anyone replaced a fan and what the cost (ballpark figure) might be?Thanks for any help.
Reply:You could run just about anything as a replacement as long as the motor voltage corresponds with what you can pick up off the secondary transformer power.I would be somewhat concerned that other problems may exist however. Selling a welder for that kind of money with missing parts wouldn't do it for me. What happened to the fan? In a machine such as this one, a thermostat controlled by the main board in the machine turns the fan on and off. I have bypassed this feature on a couple machines because that part of the board was damaged and replacing it just to have fan on demand wasn't practical dollar wise.See if you can use the machine and weld with it first. A couple minutes isn't going to hurt anything. If it checks out ok, offer less. Perhaps $400-450. Then you can look around for a replacement fan. If you do get a factory replacement, and after some use it doesn't turn on, I would just pick up power from your secondary and run it full time.Post up how you make out.Expert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948
Reply:You could ask him what it means. I would think most people would not even realize the fan was missing on a welder. Is it a continuous or on demand? Would you weld long enough to realize it should have turned on when you test it? Most people will not and most of the welders I have sold they have not even bothered to weld with. He did not have to tell you the fan was missing.

Reply:My 210mm has no FOD it runs all the time. I'm with 7A and others, no go for $600. If I could pull the cover and see if the varnish hasn't cooked off the transformer I might go $400, but it would still hurt. What does the rest of it look like ie: gun, regulator, ground & clamp?
