Our Maxstar 175 blew out a MOSFET recently I replaced the part and it blew up again so boss is thinking of getting a replacement. We are looking at a new Maxstar 200 DX as a direct replacement. The previous unit was excellent till now but it is vital to our manufacturing process so we are concerned about reliability and service due to its age and use of an add on High Frequency unit. We weld 12ga to 28 ga stainless, with occasional Monel, Inconel, and Hastelloy. How do you feel the Thermodyne would work in our situation? Also would there be a benefit to get an AC/DC machine like the Dynastay series from Miller? Would AC only be useful for aluminum or are there benefits to are current usage that could justify the extra cost? Thanks for your input. I have noticed some major pricing ranges on the internet for the 200 DX. Are these online dealers authorized Miller dealers so that we are getting first quality (not remans, etc) with full factory warranty coverage? Price differences can almost pay for the AC, but they say if its to good to be true it isn't! Thanks for your help, Marshal.
Reply:A Maxstar DX is basically a Dynasty DX minus the ac. If you ever plan on welding aluminum or magnesium then you will need the ac if not the dc only Maxstar will be a wonderful machine.
