I see all these back up lights on plow truck pickup's that are smashed..bent hanging on by one wire all the time..I had these same lights on my dump when I had it and they were not getting broken just by where they were mounted..So I got another set and said to myself "Self...There has to be a better way to do this"...Lets face it the stock back up lights just don't cut it when plowing soooooooooooo..Here is what I came up with..Took a 2 prong plug assy off a old tractor out back for the connection and it works just fine.I tied them into the stock back up lights so they only work in reverse...At first I was just going to use the hitch connection for the ground but after shaking it around and having a disco light episode I decided it's best to run the ground to the truck chassis to eliminate that.Put in for plowing..Take out when done. What could be simpler?More make instead of buy....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Whats a  plow truck pickup ??Sorry, but with me being foreign and all that
Reply:My buddy had one like that. Managed to tap a light post with it. He heard the crunch, and walked around the back. The little bar saved his bumper. It folded and he stopped in time to keep his bumper. Nice work. Im Canadian, but I gotta say, that tailgate looks clean!

Reply:I made one too. Has a backup beeper in it and a relay box to trigger the lights and pull power from the charging wire on the trailer plug wire. Also has running lights and a third brake light. Have backed into many snow banks and so far no damage to anything for 3 years now. Just needs paint once in a while.www.tjsperformance.comDynasty 300 DXHTP 240HTP Microcut 380Hyperthem 85JD2 Hyd Bender and HF Hyd Ring Roller all in one =(Frankenbender)Bpt. Reply:Mines a bit cruder, but heavier duty on the 250. I think it's a 4x4" angle 1/4" thick on a chunk of 2" square we thru together fast one night in a storm. Doubles real nice as a step to reach things in the bed with the tail gate up. One thing I see on yours vs mine though. Mine allows the tailgate to go down while the lights are installed. Yours looks like you'd hit the lights with the tailgate.I was hoping to put a new utility body on the 250,  before we blew the tranny, so I never bothered to do much with the lights. Original plan was to have the lights up top on the utility body so we'd get more coverage. Barring that I wanted to move the lights up to a ladder rack over the cap, but never figured out a decent way to do the rack and make the cape easy to remove when needed..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I prefer to leave the cap on the bed in the winter. Keeps everything in the back free of snow and ice. I admit it's a PITA to load the bed with "ballast" that way though. Usually we just lift the cap and set it aside if need be. Most times for ballast I use 30 4 1/2 gallon square buckets of stone, or just about 1800 lbs. ( plus the 1000 lbs for the fuel tank) They nest well and if I toss two partial sheets of ply over them I still have a "bed" that I can load when it's not snowing and still leave the ballast in.I don't think I'd ever want to go back to an open bed unless it was a dump where there is lots of snow..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:If your truck is equipped with the larger (7? pin) hook up for a trailer, I think you will find that the center post is typically not used, but becomes hot (powered) only when vehicle is in reverse. May have made wiring the lights a little easier.Qualified & experienced at welding scrap metal

Reply:Zap, you removed the mandatory gaggle of 2 foot long loose wires half wrapped with electrical tape dangling from the bumper?......what are you going to get pissed off at when you want to tow your boat and none of the lights work?Nice light bar.I need to make something similar for the wifes Escape.....no, wait that would need to be a full body crash cage.
Reply:Nice work Zap! Much better than what the truck came with for sure.Stock reverse lights sort of work as a signal to others that you are going to back up, but they don't help you see where you are going. Add in a dark night with heavy rain coming down sideways and stock reverse lights are right up there with useless.I get stuff in and out of the back of my truck often enough that I mount mine in the bumper, otherwise I'll break or dent something. I've always used the grommet mount lights and then put in the 50w halogen sealed beam flood lamps. Then last weekend my brother comes to visit, he sells and installs lights professionally, and he shows me some 37w LED flood lights. Those things turn night into day. Couple of those and I'll really be happy.Mr. HE

Reply:I like it!  and also see no problem with the license plate numbers Is it just me or driving a pick up without the tail gate tends to affect the structure getting the sides to swing easily...Well maybe in Mass. where the roads are nicer and the snow is lesser it doesn't matter... And maybe some day you will have a real hockey team ...good job
